Why the “lean” angle matters
- Fund-raising efficiency – less capital needed to reach product-market fit. Midjourney has yet to raise external capital and is ranked 2nd on the leaderboard.
- Competitive agility – can pivot models or prompts quickly as new research drops. Small teams move fast.
- Structural leverage – the marginal cost of serving the next customer is extremely small relative to the value delivered.

These companies are not anomalies - they are the future.
